With the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series quickly winding down, drivers know it’s time to make every move count. The heightened pressure showed up on the course through jam-packed action. Brian Deegan and his #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford took on Las Vega Motor Speedway in true Deegan style.
The General Leads Nearly Every Lap in Pro Lite
Through some impressive and aggressive driving, Deegan quickly took over the Pro 2 lead, moving up from fifth. The General maintained the lead through cautions and ongoing shuffling in the rest of the pack until the final lap when the engine of his #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford, showing signs of overheating earlier in the race due to an incident that ripped the cooling fans from his truck, decided it had finally had enough. Unfortunately, Deegan would drop to eighth on that final lap and miss out on valuable points in the championship chase. There are two rounds left for Deegan to close the gap on points leader Sheldon Creed.
Another Podium Finish in Pro 2
Deegan began Pro 2 in a respectable fourth. After Carl Renezeder, who was running second, was forced to the Hot Pits, everyone moved up in order. A bump up with RJ Anderson allowed Rob MacCachren to squeeze past the battling duo and Deegan dropped back to fourth again. Deegan has secured a podium in every round of Pro 2 this year and wasn’t about to let his streak die on unlucky number 13, He began putting pressure on Patrick Clark, who was in third by lap 13. The General nearly took over on lap 15, but found his best opportunity on lap 17, taking a nice inside pass at turn two. The #38 Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Ford held on for a third place finish, keeping Deegan’s amazing podium streak alive.
Unfortunately, rain would end the weekend after Round 13. Round 14 will be contested in conjunction with the Lake Elsinore event, October 24-25.
Round 11 of Pro 2 and Pro Lite will air on CBS Sports on Sunday, September 28 at 7:00pm Eastern.
