Making
their first appearance this season in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing
Series, brothers Kyle and Todd LeDuc swept the top spots in the premier
Unlimited 4 and Unlimited 2 800HP truck classes. With the Lake Elsinore
rounds 7&8 presented by Rockstar Energy Drink, the Rockstar/Makita
Team that also includes family patriarch Curt LeDuc, gave fans a thrill
with a dominating performance. Rockstar Energy Drink teams also took
additional podiums with Chris Brandt racing to his first Unlimited Lite
win of the season and Brian Deegan showing strong consistency with back
to back second place finishes in U-Lite.
A
Saturday night standing room only crowed witnessed spectacular racing
under the lights as the cooler evening temperatures allowed for track
conditions on the 9/10th mile off road minefield to be described by
drivers as perfect for racing.
While Kyle
LeDuc showed the experience and skill of a seasoned veteran in taking
his back to back wins in U-4, class newcomer Mike Johnson, filling in
for Alan Pflueger, quickly adapted to the traction and horsepower of
the Team Renezeder prepared K&N Filters Unlimited 4. A former
rookie of the year in Unlimited 2, Johnson found himself on the podium
both Saturday and Sunday, taking home impressive second and third place
trophies.
The Unlimited Lite Championship
is taking shape as the top three drivers continue to find themselves on
the podium. Brian Deegan in his Rockstar/Metal Mulisha Unlimited Lite
was poised to take his second win of the season when Rob Naughton made
an astounding pass on the last turn to take the checkered flag. On
Sunday, a disappointed Naughton registered his first DNF of the season
while Hart&Huntington/Rockstar Unlimited Lite of Chris Brandt took
the win further tightening the class standings.
The
story of the weekend in the Bully Dog SuperLite Trucks was Ricky James.
James, paralyzed from the sternum down as a result of a teenage
motocross accident, took the win in his first race ever race on
Saturday and then repeated the feat on Sunday as the SoCalSuperTrucks
Team celebrated phenomenal back to back wins. John Fitzgerald was
another notable winner as the Limited Buggy driver captured first and
second place trophies for the weekend. Winners in Unlimited Buggy were
Greg George and Mike Dondel with television host and off road race car
driver, Cameron Steele going home with his first trophy in the series
with a second place finish on Saturday.
