Champion off-road racer Rick Huseman was killed Sunday afternoon October 15th, in a plane crash near Barstow, California. The accident occurred approximately 2:00 pm Sunday afternoon when the plane, a Beechcraft 33 Bonanza, was attempting to make an emergency landing at the Barstow/Dagget Airport. Huseman and his family were returning from the Monster Energy Cup held in Las Vegas last night. Also perishing in this tragic accident was Huseman’s younger brother, Jeff, who was a mechanic on his older brother’s team as well as a driver in the LOORRS Pro Lite Division. The third victim, believed to be the pilot of the plane, has yet to be officially identified. Huseman has been racing since 1997. In 2010, Husman won the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Pro-4 Championship. He was in second place in the 2011 Lucas Oil Series following the most recent race in Arizona, just 23 points behind the leader. There’s no telling how many more races and championships he would have won had it not been for this terrible tragedy. Huseman was 38 years old. Please remember the Huseman family in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time in their lives. Statement from Lucas Oil on the Passing of Rick Huseman
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and Lucas Oil Products wish to convey our utmost condolences to the family of Rick Huseman. A true champion among men, Rick was a standup family man and an exceptionally talented off road racer. His accomplishments on the track were nothing short of impressive, but the way he conducted himself off the track was what ultimately defined his humble character.
It is with great sorrow that we reflect on the passing of a true champion.
