With beautiful sunny skies, pleasant temperatures and just a hint of a breeze, one could hardly ask for a better day to go racing here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series is back in action this weekend, and with a some hotly-contested points battles raging, the stage was set for a terrific afternoon of racing action. In case you weren't here to catch it, here's a breakdown of the day's events. Pro 4 Unlimited First out onto the track were the big boys of Pro 4 Unlimited. Points leader Rick Huseman hit trouble almost immediately when he rolled his truck near turn five during the warm-up lap, causing substantial damage to his truck. Huseman was able to continue, albeit at a much reduced pace, and he soon pulled off the track, unable to turn a lap that was anywhere close to the times of the frontrunners. With Huseman now out of the running, it was Carl Renezeder who came away best today, taking the pole in a 1:07.793 in his #1 Lucas Oil/General Tire Ford. Runner up today was Adrian Cenni in the #11 Atrium Payroll/BFGoodrich Tires Chevrolet, who narrowly missed the pole after setting a personal best lap of 1:07.909. Third went to the #31 K&N Filters/Ironclad Ford of Mike Johnson with a 1:08.721, with Kyle LeDuc and his dad Curt taking fourth and fifth in the two Rockstar Energy Drink/Makita Power Tools Fords. The two LeDucs finished with times of 1:09.353 and 1:10.529, respectively. Pro Lite Unlimited Next up were the Pro Lite Unlimiteds, and with a close championship battle still being waged by the top four drivers in points, every position picked up in qualifying will certainly aid those drivers as they hunt for every possible point. Three of those top four drivers filled out the top three positions at the end of qualifying, with "The General" himself, Brian Deegan, taking top spot with a 1:12.333 in his #38 Rockstar/Metal Mulisha Ford. In second, nearly a full second off of Deegan's blistering pace, was points leader Chris Brandt, whose best lap was a 1:13.297 in his #82 mavTV/Hart and Huntington Toyota. Third was Matt Loiodice in the #20 MasterCraft Safety/Competitive Metals Ford, finishing the session with a best lap of 1:14.054, while fourth went to Adam Wik in the #11 Wik's Racing Engines/Yokohama Tires Chevrolet, with a best lap of 1:14.200. Rounding out the top five was Corey Sisler in the new #19 Twisted Beverage-liveried Ford, who set a personal best of 1:14.285. Pro 2 Unlimited After some track grooming, action resumed with Pro 2 Unlimited. Despite the incredible depth of competition in this class, it seems like points leader Rob MacCachren has really risen to the top of this field, and he did so again today. At session's end, it was MacCachren on top in the #21 MasterCraft Safety/Fox Racing Shox Ford, setting the time to beat at 1:09.799. In a close second it was Greg Adler in the #10 4 Wheel Parts/Magnaflow Performance Exhaust Ford, finishing just under two tenths of second slower than MacCachren with his 1:09.969. Rounding out the would-be podium was Carl Renezeder, who ran a 1:10.126 in the #17 Lucas Oil/Team Associated Ford. Making it a perfect three-for-three, as far as top five qualifying runs are concerned for the LeDuc family, was Todd LeDuc in the #8 Rockstar/Makita Ford, who had a best lap of 1:10.602, and rounding out the top five was young Robby Woods in the #99 Lucas Slick Mist/Superchips Chevrolet, with a 1:10.686 on his second lap. Super Lite With one of the closest points battles coming into this weekend, Super Lite will definitely be a class to watch. Like Pro Lite Unlimited, many of the points contenders found their way into the top five in today's qualifying session, with Jacob Person taking top honors in his #29 Stand-Up-MRI of Arizona/Geiser Bros machine, setting a best lap of 1:15.743. In second came points leader Chad George in the #42 Bull Outdoor Products/Funco truck, who missed out on the pole by just nine thousandths of a second with a 1:15.752! Third was Ricky James in the #24 SoCal Super Trucks/A.O.K. machine, who turned a 1:16.002 on lap two. Dawson Kirchner also turned his best lap on lap two, taking fourth with a 1:16.298 in his #16 Speed Technologies truck, and the final spot in the top five went to Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg. Stenberg joined fellow points contenders Person and George in the top five today, and just missed out on fourth by seven thousandths of a second after setting his best lap at 1:16.305. Pro Buggy Unlimited Despite playing host to one of the closest points battles of any class, Pro Buggy Unlimited qualifying nearly shut out all three main points contenders from the top five today. Taking top honors today was Bobby PeCoy in the #973 downloadactionvideo.com/Maxxis Tires AlumiCraft, who bested the field with a 1:13.036. Second place went to local teenage driver Justin Davis, who was just a hair slower than PeCoy with his 1:13.081 in his #985 Green Army/Gatorwraps.com Racer. The top six finishers were all pretty close, and third went to Mike Porter in the #900 Redline Performance AlumiCraft with a 1:13.381, while Cody Freeman took fourth in the #994 FCS Flooring/Wik's Racing Engines Racer with his 1:13.480. The final spot in the top five went to third place points sitter Cameron Steele and his #916 Menzies Motorsports/Super Clean AlumiCraft, with Steele turning a 1:13.643 on lap two. Limited Buggy With his narrow points lead having been a little bit dwindled in Surprise, Justin Smith did his best to claw back some space between himself and second place points runner John Fitzgerald in today's qualifying session. Smith's efforts were successful, as he took the pole and the one championship point that goes with it after turning a 1:16.619 in his #319 Menzies Motorsports/Bully Dog Fraley. In second came Bruce Fraley, who set his personal best lap at 1:17.281 in his #312 Freeman's Carpet Service/BFGoodrich Tires Fraley, while third place was Curt Geer in the #392 Green Army/BDI Bowden Lothringer, whose best lap was a 1:17.315. Fourth place was LJ Kennedy in the #382 Wilson Motorsports/Yokohama Tires Penhall, with fifth going to Fitzgerald in the #314 mavTV/Lucas Oil buggy. Kennedy's best lap was a 1:18.108 on lap three, while Fitzgerald managed to run a 1:18.300 on lap four. UTV The final qualifying session of the day was that of the UTVs, with the Unlimited UTVs and SR1s again going head to head in one big clash. With the drier conditions allowing the more powerful SR1s to lay down their power more effectively than at other venues, they were able to run at the front of the pack despite their two-wheel drive handicap. Class newcomer Ryan Beat topped the field in his #851 Osborn Racing Yamaha, setting the top time of 1:15.455 on the final lap. Second went to Corry Weller in the #801 Tilted Kilt/Weller Racing Yamaha, with third going to Doug Mittag in the #848 Custom Off Road Designs/NCY Yamaha; Weller and Mittag had personal bests of 1:15.533 and 1:15.830, respectively. Dan Kelly finished up fourth with a 1:16.077 in his #824 Muzzys Yamaha, and SR1 points leader Tyler Herzog made it an all-SR1 top five with a 1:16.155 in his #844 Ivy Trucking and Grading Yamaha. Austin Kimbrell could only manage seventh overall on his way to the top of the Unlimited UTV field; his personal best was a 1:16.625 in his #607 Monster Energy/UTVUnderground.com Kawasaki. That's all for Friday qualifying here in Las Vegas. Be sure to get yourselves to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to catch all the action in Rounds 13 and 14 this weekend; it'll be a show not to be missed!
